Amazing luxury campsite with a spa attached and the most wonderful facilities. It is right in North Italy near Austrian border – nearest big town probably Cortina a few valleys away. Look for Dobbiaco and Sexton or Sesto – language very confusing as German and Italian spoken and used inn signs and maps.
Because they are open all year for skiing as well as summer activities, the washrooms are fully heated with personal cubicles and shower rooms better than at home. I know it looks like a hobbits home, but the building is insulated by the earth – the entrance was a bit strange the first time – not like your usual block of loos/showers.![]()
It is pretty cold at night (well we are at the same height as Ben Nevis) and early mornings, so it is a joy to go and get fully dressed and washed in warmth and greeted by a log burner - bliss. Difficult to move on to more normal facilities!
Fantastic mountain scenery, as expected, and been of some great walks - some up in the peaks via road and then walk or up by cable car and walk around and down. Great alpine huts as per rest of Alps -
coffee and cake in the sunshine and blue skies - surrounded by stunning views.
Watched these guys and almost tempted – but not quite – it’s a long way down
We are really surprised how busy it is – thought it would be quiet as in France and Spain after August – but campsite is packed (all German and Italians – we are only Brits in town- haven’t seen a GB sticker since the ferry!)and there were massive numbers on the high level walk (admittedly most popular area in Dolomites) to the Dreizinnen (3 peaks – see above piccie). Including lots of crazy climbers.
